The Elephant's Rope (Inspirational Tales)

A gentleman was walking through an elephant camp and saw that the elephants were not kept in cages or chained up.

One tiny piece of rope fastened to one of their legs was all that stood between them and the camp.

When the man looked at the elephants, he was completely confused as to why the elephants weren't using their strength to break the rope and escape from the camp. They could have easily done it, but instead they didn't try.

Curious and wanting to know the answer, he asked a nearby trainer why the elephants were there and never tried to escape.

The trainer responded;

"The same size rope is used to tie them up when they are very young and much smaller, and at that age, it is sufficient to hold them." As they grow they are conditioned to believe that they can't be separated.

"They think the rope can still hold them, so they never try to free themselves."

The only reason the elephants didn't break free and escape the camp is because over time they came to believe that it just wasn't possible.
